Pledge of Allegiance 1930s video (rare palms up version)

Beginning video is a 1930s all African-American segregated school in Kansas.
The salute was officially replaced by the hand-over-heart salute when Congress amended the Flag Code on 22 December 1942. (American Nazi Salute/Socialist Salute/Bellamy etc)’

I asked my grandparents about this, and they actually clarified something that isn’t shown in these clips. It’s called “palms up” for a reason. The salute starts like we do today, hand over heart for the first line: “I pledge allegiance”. Then the arm is extended, palm up: “to the flag, of the United States of America.” It was important to note that it was a sweeping motion from the heart outwards, rather than a stiff arm salute practiced by the National Socialists.

My father In his 80s told me of this from his day before ww 2 ..With the resemblance to Nazi salute it was changed to hand over heart during the war he was about 12

This form of salute is actually called the “Roman Salute”. Clenched fist over heart followed by an extended arm. Ave Cesare ( Hail Caesar)

That style of salute is as old as ancient Rome.

pretty sure we were doing the bellamy salute since 1855, nazis and facisists didnt grab the similar roman salute till the 1920s-1930s

Counter Arguments

The phrase “under God” is missing, thus rendering it an inaccurate depiction of the past, This video is trash

The daily flag prayer/loyalty oath is used to indoctrinate children to worship the symbol of American government. Shamefully, it is a one-way pledge: Since the govt does not pledge loyalty in return, the flag prayer is just a cynical sound bite with noble-sounding words.

Sad. I remember a time as a preteen neo mccarthyist so carefree and laissez faire before the political indoctrination process in public school system poisoned that innocence.
